Leathersmith CT, LLC is a small specialty leather upholstery and repair shop. Like other shops we can reupholster your furniture and automobiles. Unlike others, we specialize in only leather and vinyl. We work on almost anything that is leather and we can do some unique things with it.
We make our own custom colors to match the piece which allows us to do partial reupholstery work, refinish existing pieces when there is small cracking, and do repair work when there are small cuts or wear. We have done some different and interesting items throughout the years… read on and learn more about us.
Jordan Stark – Since 1975 my family has been involved in the leather and vinyl repair industry, with my father opening his business in New York City. At that time the trade was relatively new, focusing mostly on automotive, and using very basic tools and techniques.
As a young boy I can remember watching him work; he used a mouth atomizer to apply the paint and a heat gun to cure the repair. The mouth atomizer made a fog of over spray in the car’s interior, and the solvent based paint would make your head spin!
Through the years my father honed his skills and incorporated the latest technology (including precision airbrushing, water based odorless paints, and advanced graining).
Today, with my own business, and over 20 years of experience, I bring with me to every job the years of experience and trade secrets my father handed down. By trying to provide my clients with the highest quality repair and refinishing possible, as well as restoration and upholstery work, I know I am continuing on with the high quality standards my father has set.
Dawn Miller Stark – My background is in architectural design and construction management. How did I get into the leather business you ask? Well, I married into it.
Years back when I was pregnant with my our second child I left my career on the construction site to raise our children. Through the years, as the business expanded, Jordan needed my background in project management to run the business end. Now, I help in the shop with more decorative items (or when an extra set of hands are needed) but my main job is to work with our customers, suppliers, scheduling, sales, and the overall running of the business side of the company.
It is my pleasure to work so closely with our customers and try to ensure their happiness with whatever we create for them.
